Organization Hacks That’ll Make Your Apartment Feel Larger

If you live in a home, you can always extend it to gain some more space. However, this isn’t possible if you live in an apartment. This can appear intimidating, particularly if you’re trying to fit many items into a small space.

You don’t have to compromise on style and comfort simply because you have limited space. Fortunately, these strategies will help your space feel bigger.

Vertical Arrangement

When it comes to making your apartment feel larger, you should consider a vertical arrangement instead of a horizontal one. This implies using the available space on the ceiling.

Most of the time, most of us tend to focus on floor space. However, you’ll notice there’s a lot of unused space on the ceiling and walls that you should maximize.

Consider investing in a floor to ceiling shelving, fix storage units on the upper walls and consider hanging hooks from the ceiling to hold pans, pots, and silverware to maximize storage.

Remove Clutter

It’s important you maintain a tidy and organized room. Nothing makes a small place feel overcrowded than having too much stuff. When you arrange your items neatly and out of sight, space will in turn, feel open and orderly.

Keep in mind that a messy room translates into a smaller one. Avoid covering the walls with too many pictures. Instead, opt for one huge painting than a group of small ones. A room can feel crowded and busy when there’s too much going on.

You should have a focal point when you’re decorating a small room. A focal point is one feature that will attract the eye. For instance, the table will probably be the focal point. Make sure that the furniture arrangement is such that you draw focus to that area and maintain the décor in the other parts of your room to a minimum.

Moreover, the floor should be as clear as possible. This is a significant way of maintaining a sense of spaciousness. Consider taking out big rugs to generate the illusion of additional floor space.

Partitioning

Another way of making a small rental feel spacious is removing any permanent partitions. Remember, openness is key to producing an airy feel, so go for an open plan layout where possible.

Where partitions are necessary, consider using fabric roll-up curtains for separating the space, or folding doors, which you can open fully. This way, you’ll enjoy privacy when necessary while enabling your space to feel bigger.

Mirror Placement

Mirrors can make your space seem bigger. Have a focal point and position the mirrors toward it to create the depth illusion. Mirrors reflect artificial and natural light as well, making your room brighter during the night and day.

Putting a mirror next to a window in order to reflect the outdoors is particularly effective. Placing mirrors on the glass tabletops and walls will give your space an open feel. Alternatively, you could use mirrored cabinet doors to make your space feel bigger.

Multi-functional Furniture

Consider how you can exploit space by using multifunctional pieces. For instance, you can use ottomans for storage as well as extra seating areas. You could also consider beds with storage beneath the mattress.

They could function as a sofa or sleeping space for visitors. You might lack room for a desk in your rental, but a table with a storage capacity could work for working and dining.  You can also invest in chairs that convert into beds, giving you additional space for guests. You’ll be able to save room in your small space without sacrificing on functionality.

Final Thoughts

Maximizing space in an apartment might be difficult but it’s not impossible. With these strategies, you can enjoy a spacious-looking apartment.
