How To Create An Eclectic Living Room Space

Eclectic spaces feature various styles, periods, and it’s typically achieved through the use of texture, color, finish, and shape. Bear in mind that the style isn’t merely about arranging and displaying a random blend of things around your home.

Instead, you must follow certain rules to accomplish one of the hardest styles successfully. After all, mastering this style can be tricky, particularly when you’re attempting to merge different styles and eras.

When achieved successfully, an eclectic living space boasts considerable character with an interesting and warm appeal, so here’s how to integrate the style into your living room.

Stone, Leather, and Wood

A good blend of materials will always yield a complimentary look. For an eclectic appearance, you may initially avoid this.

Nonetheless, combinations for instance a stone wall set against wooden flooring or beams frequently appear unplanned, but still blend. This is particularly the case if the wood has an untreated finish.

If you include some leather, possibly as an option for your furniture upholstery, you’ll have three material elements working separately from one another though in unison. If you lack a stone wall, you could use stone-textured cushions instead.

Contrast

This style is about contrasting elements that blend well. However, finding a good contrast is dependent on not being scared to make mistakes and experiment.

After all, experimenting with divergent styles is the only way to identify a good match; at times, you need to see items together to establish whether they work or not.

While contrast is important, it’s important you incorporate a sense of continuity. You can achieve harmony and continuity by making sure a common thread runs throughout the composition.

Incorporating a unifying element throughout your living space is the ideal way of making it look like it’s been put together professionally, and color is an excellent way to do this.

For instance, you can include scatters in all sizes and shapes, with various patterns and textures, but in a unifying color palette. This way, you can keep the basics neutral and merge the different décor accents by selecting a color thread that runs throughout your space for a seamless look.

Rugs

Carpets aren’t the perfect flooring for an eclectic living room, so remove yours and select a rug that doesn’t fill the whole floor space.

You’ll discover that Turkish and Persian rugs are ideal for an eclectic setting. Although their traditional designs can appear busy, they tie together varied colors. If your living room’s design is plain, opt for a rug with a repetitive and bold design.

Artwork

Art has a great effect in an eclectic living room, so select pieces of varied sizes and colors. It’s also important you arrange the artworks in a seemingly random manner over the entire wall.

Use paintings and photographs to add to the eclectic style throughout the rest of your room. Ideally, the pieces should be of varying sizes and styles. Make sure you select pieces you like individually. This way, they’ll most likely blend together with some coherence.

Balance

Generating a sense of balance is important in achieving this style successfully. Therefore, if you integrate too much of a particular style, you’ll end up with a mismatched space.

For this reason, make sure you integrate the appropriate amount of every style-modern, traditional etc. Consider balancing plain fabrics and patterns as well as neutrals and colors to achieve a room that appears well finished and complete.

Final Thoughts

Merging various styles into the same space can be complex. However, considering these design tricks and being sensible about what to incorporate in the space can produce an elegant living room.
