There’s a dog breed for every lifestyle and person. Bear in mind that just because a particular breed matches your personality, this doesn’t automatically imply that it’s a good option for you.

Although numerous dog owners claim that apartment living and dogs don’t go together, this is untrue. You don’t require a big yard to keep your dog happy.

If you reside in a small apartment, avoid breeds that require considerable space outdoors and time. Fortunately, these breeds can adapt to apartment living.

English Bulldog

The medium-sized dog does not like much movement, making it ideal for an apartment. Although its appearance can be rather intimidating, the English bulldog is among the gentlest.

This breed is a very dependable and affectionate animal that’s calm with children. Nevertheless, it’s known for its exceptional guarding abilities and courage.

The breed can be persistent and requires considerable human attention. Although they’re full of energy when they’re young, they typically slow down as they grow older.

Boston Terrier

At 12-18 pounds, this breed is extremely attached to the owner, meaning he doesn’t mind indoor spaces provided the owner is attentive. The dog is also easily trainable.

These breeds have a distinct personality, setting them apart from other terriers. A number of experts believe this is the result of their easygoing nature.

Moreover, they’re less excitable compared to other terriers besides having a well-mannered personality. They get along with the entire family as well as other household pets.

The playful breed also likes getting involved in family occasions and can up live up to 16 years provided it’s healthy.

French Bulldog

The quiet and calm dog has a practical demeanor, making him appropriate for any living space, including apartments. Although they have a tough exterior, they are easygoing and caring.

They’re open, outgoing, and enjoy cuddling on the couch. They can handle confined spaces and know how to get along with new people.

The sociable and pleasant companions can also be protective. The people-oriented breeds also crave interaction and attention.

A healthy breed can live up to 12 years. Bear in mind that these breeds are sensitive to severe temperatures, favoring cooler climates.

Furthermore, they are high maintenance, so expect high vet bills. Nevertheless, they’re clean and the majority will try to evade puddles.

Maltese

The small and quiet dog has a silky coat. Besides being playful, lively, and spirited, the breed is trusting, loving, and dedicated to his master.

The well-behaved creatures love affection and attention. They also enjoy running around in the yard and are ideal for city-dwellers.

You’ll discover they’re great with children, particularly older ones and are confident around other dogs. The breed tends to demand a certain degree of respect and good treatment.

While Maltese require daily grooming, take care when brushing because their coat is extremely soft. The other advantage of these breeds is that they don’t shed a lot, making them a good option for allergy sufferers.

Basset Hound

Although it might not seem apartment-friendly with its bulky stature, the Basset Hound is very calm and you can easily keep him busy with a lot of petting and treat toys. Ensure the breed gets plenty of exercise to keep it healthy.
