Do you cringe at the thought of inviting your friends for a backyard barbecue? Perhaps it’s time you gave your patio a makeover. If you’re like most homeowners, you probably use your patio year-round.

However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t set time aside for spring cleaning your outdoor space.

After all, a thorough sprucing helps maintain your home’s value and allows you to enjoy your patio. Here are great tips on how to prepare your patio for spring.

Power Wash

A thorough wash of the patio can give it a new look. You can engage professional services or at the very least, you can take out the furniture and simply spray the area with water to remove the dirt and dust that tends to accumulate.

Bold Colors

Give your patio an elegant and vibrant look by hanging draperies in bold hues such as red and incorporate patterned pillows in complementary hues.

It’s important you opt for drapes that are made from wrinkle-free materials, for instance acrylic, polyester, and nylon. You’ll discover that these materials will hold up well against harsh weather.

New Blooms

Unfortunately, colder temperatures can not only damage but also kill your plants. When spring comes, you’ll need to invest in new plants to revive your garden.

Fortunately, you can invest in numerous native plants that add color and can thrive in different conditions. Investing in a few of these plants will ensure you have year-long greenery on your patio.

Furthermore, your patio will look great and not demand constant care. Select colors that are complementary and use a garden guide to know the exact time of planting.

Floral arrangements

One way of adding some color to your tabletop surfaces is with freshly cut flowers. Keep your floral pieces fresh by cutting stems under running water every other day.

Make sure you cut the stems at an angle and change the water daily. This way, you’ll extend your flowers’ life by a week or two.

Hanging Furniture

If your patio has premium space, you should consider investing in hanging furniture. Bear in mind that you don’t have to purchase new furniture if you have an old bench or crib lying around.

You can transform these pieces into an outdoor seat, particularly since crib mattresses typically have plastic coating, making them an ideal fit for outdoor use.

Lighting

The easiest way of dressing up your outdoor space and making a huge impact is with lighting. There are numerous options from which to choose depending on your style and space. In particular, string lights work extremely well for small patios but also look great in every outdoor space.

Clean Up or Replace Outdoor Furniture

It’s always good to wipe down furniture regularly. Make sure you check for ripped cushions and broken legs. Oftentimes, you can fix these without having to purchase new pieces. You can purchase new cushions inexpensively to bring life to old patio chairs.

Seating

The appropriate seating for your outdoor space could make all the difference. Big spaces can accommodate a customized bench or outdoor sectional.

For smaller spaces however, consider wicker chairs in bright colors or a small bench that has bright throw pillows. This will make your space feel more open.

Whether you reside in the city with a small outdoor space or in the countryside with a wide meadow, there are simple solutions for transforming a dull outdoor area into a wonderful spot for your friends and family to enjoy. If you’re wondering how to prepare your patio, here’s a great place to start.
