Terry Hershey Park
Suited for intermediate and advanced bikers, Terry Hershey Park has numerous steep but short climbs in the trails. The bike trail in this park is The Anthills, which is among the best in town.
You’ll discover that the trail isn’t difficult to go through. However, the middle trails tend to get tougher as you approach Wilcrest.
The view here is also a huge attraction. However, you should exercise caution when it rains.
Memorial Park
Trails at the Memorial Park are suitable for beginners and intermediate bikers. Memorial Park provides a convenient escape from Houston’s concrete jungle with 7 miles of dirt trails.
You’ll discover that the trails have markings besides being named according to their color except “The Triangle.” The Green trail is the longest and is on the park’s southeast side.
Whenever you approach blind corners, ensure you make your presence known. It is also important to regulate your speed constantly.
Stephen F Austin State Park
Also called SFA, Stephen F Austin Park is a hidden gem on the western side of Houston. Although the trail lacks technical features, its flow and layout enable a fast ride.
While there, expect gradual changes in elevation and a few steep hills, which make your ride fun. SFA’s trails are two-way and multi-use, so always exercise caution and always control your speed.
Cullen Park
Beginners should probably avoid the trails at Cullen Park. The park features 3.5 miles of paved twists, ditches, and turns. Watch out for roller bladers while there. You can access this trail all year round.
George Bush Park
The biking trail at George Bush Park is best described as a warm-up course. It is approximately two miles long. It lacks difficult areas to traverse except a few uphill treks.
Curiously, it does not have a loop shape. Therefore, it is important you plan accordingly.
The paved bike and hike path at this park is perfect for a family ride. Named after the 41st President, this park has more than 11 miles of biking and hiking paths.
It is important you recognize that the bike route is occasionally inundated. Beware that wet weather could make the route unusable. So, call the park to establish conditions before planning your trip.
Buffalo Bayou Bike Trails
Since its foundation, Buffalo Bayou has been a central point in Houston’s history. Today, it it’s the centerpiece of the city’s development.
Buffalo Bayou Partnership has been dedicated to developing a regional amenity that provides opportunities for entertainment, livability, and recreation. Key to its restoration is the bike and hike trail, which winds from Shepherd Drive through sections of the East End.
The trail is somewhat hilly. So, don’t expect numerous problems while on the trail.
