Houston

Houston is a flourishing metropolis recognized for its cultural attractions and museums. However, it’s equally known for organizing celebrations and festivals year-round for its locals and visitors alike. You can opt for week-long or weekend events celebrating everything from culture and arts to live music.

If you’re wondering where to take your children, you’ll be glad to know that the city hosts festivals geared specifically toward children. Whether you’re a fan of livestock festivals or international film festivals, there’s something for everyone in Houston. Here’s a list of annual Houston festivals worth considering.

Houston Children’s Festival

The 2-day celebration targets the small ones, offering films, entertainment, workshops, and hands-on fun. Kids can enjoy painting and art contests as well as animal encounters. Furthermore, they can take workshops in dance, art, and fun activities. The McDonald’s-sponsored Houston festival was initially initiated to raise awareness of child abuse. However, today it’s a general celebration meant to offer fun in the center of Houston.

Japanese Festival of Houston

The 2-day annual Houston festival, which takes place in May, celebrates Japanese culture, art, music, and food with workshops, vendors, and live entertainment. The Houston festival allows you to explore various stalls where vendors showcase handmade fans, Japanese calligraphy, and kimonos.

Attendees can enjoy Japanese music performances and become informed about their traditions. You’ll also learn about performance art, ink drawing, and bonsai trimming. Simultaneously, you’ll taste Japanese cuisine and explore block printing.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

This show has been a tradition in Houston since 1932. The three-week family event provides and promotes education on agriculture while celebrating Western heritage and supports Texas youth by issuing scholarship money.

If you’ve always wanted a chance to see a rodeo up close, this show offers a great chance to do so. You’ll witness real-life cowgirls and cowboys taking on bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, and more. Furthermore, there’s a horse and livestock show along with live concerts during the Houston Festival.

International Jazz Festival

Jazz music enthusiasts typically flock to this festival, which has live performances by well-known artists across the city. The festival continues throughout August and seeks to raise funds to operate jazz education programs.

Throughout the Houston festival, attendees can enjoy concerts from renowned artists or take workshops to learn more about jazz history and its performance facets. The grand experience further allows you to get close to renowned artists and musicians.

Martin Luther King Grande Parade

The Parade takes place in honor of the renowned civil rights leader and raises awareness of racial equality through performances. The parade takes place over the latter part of January in San Jacinto Street where you’ll find dancing, music, and fun for the family.

Houston Italian Festival

Attendees find social events, food, dancing, and shopping dedicated to celebrating Italian heritage and culture. The Houston festival occurs every October in the center of Houston and permits you to explore a range of vendors serving authentic cuisine. Besides catching concerts, you can engage in workshops to discover more about Italian culture and enjoy involvement with the Italian community locally.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Houston offers a lot to see and do, including fine dining, entertainment, and sports. If you’re new to the city, you might want to try any of these annual Houston festivals. Just ensure you plan for a timely arrival.
