5 Signs You Need to Upgrade Your Rental

Apartment living can be rather exciting, particularly when it’s your dream apartment. However, the thrill can fade after a while because of various reasons. When the time comes to move, the period you’ve lived in a rental seldom matters. If you’re uncertain about whether to upgrade your rental, consider these signs.

1. A Noisy Rental

If you find yourself constantly knocking on the mutual living room shared with your neighbor, it’s reasonable to presume the apartment is noisy. Whether the noise is coming from neighbors, construction, or traffic noise, a noisy rental is hardly enjoyable, particularly if you value peace after a hectic day.

Various ways exist in which you can tackle or decrease noise in your rental. Whether you need to file a complaint against noisy neighbors or arrange a sit-down with a roommate about noise reduction, there are tactics for managing noise levels.

Alternatively, you could consider window reinforcement to ensure a gap doesn’t exist. Nonetheless, if you’re tired of the noise and have tried various tactics to no avail, it’s time to upgrade your rental.

2. Inconvenience

Parameters exist for anyone considering a rental. However, these parameters vary on an individual basis. For instance, it could be the lack of some amenities or proximity to facilities such as grocery stores or laundry.

Perhaps you might encounter a certain aspect daily, causing some inconvenience. Initially, it might not bother you, but over time, the aspects can overwhelm you, causing discomfort. Although it might be seemingly trivial, if you can find a way to maximize apartment living, do so. It’s worth noting that a rental should be a place for relaxing with your family. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a source of stress.

3. Restricted Space

Growing families and pet owners typically face this problem as they accumulate various items such as furniture. Various ways exist in which to maximize space, including decluttering and buying multipurpose furniture. However, if these hacks aren’t working and space still seems restricted, it’s time to find a bigger rental.

4. Rent Increase

Most renters have to deal with rent increases at some point during their lease. Although you’ll most often face rent increases upon lease renewal, it’s the amount that matters. Typically, rent increase ranges from 2%-4%, but on average, the rate is 3%.

If you find the rent increase surpasses that range, perhaps it’s time you considered moving to a new rental. Nonetheless, you could try negotiating the increase with your property manager or landlord depending on the circumstance and their readiness to compromise. In case your rental is within your budget despite the increase, there isn’t much to worry about except the slight annoyance that comes with a higher rent for the same rental.

5. No Storage

The closets in your rental should be adequate to store your items such as cleaning supplies and household items. If your rental is lacking in closet space to the extent that your shoes end up lying around because of no space, it might be time to upgrade your rental and find one with additional storage.

If you’re unsatisfied with your present living situation, and these signs deter you from lease renewal, don’t hesitate to seek a new rental if it’s best.
