While spring is certainly the best season because of the comfortable weather, recognizing how to fill the free days can at times be somewhat daunting. Whether you’re visiting on vacation or you’re a resident, the city offers various activities for everyone.

Fortunately, there’s always something to do in this city and you’ll certainly enjoy the endless festivals that occur in the Bayou City. If you’re thinking of moving to Houston, here’s a list of reasons why you should be a renter by spring.

1. Bayou City Art Festival

The Bayou Festival is a production by the Art Colony Association, which seeks to produce high-quality art events and festivals to offer monetary support to nonprofit organizations locally. Over the last 47 years, the producer has raised $3.5 million in support of local organizations.

The festival obtains partial funding by grants from Houston city and Houston Arts Alliance. The three-day festival is one of the top outdoor arts festivals nationwide that brings out over 20,000 individuals to Memorial Park, giving visitors the chance to enjoy entertainment and food while meeting exhibiting artists.

The fun and interactive outdoor festival will take place from March 23rd -25th from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. You can take a shuttle from Northwest Mall to the Memorial Park. A round trip ride will cost you $4 as an adult while children below 12 won’t pay any charges.

Consider purchasing discounted tickets online before the event. The general admission charges are $15 per adult and $5 per child (12 and below).

2. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Since its initiation, the Houston Livestock Show has evolved into a much-loved Houston tradition and the biggest rodeo event worldwide. Every year, Houston welcomes 2 million attendees for the 20-day show. The yearly festival offers fun-filled carnivals, shopping, concerts, barbecue cook-offs, and bull riding.

3. Houston Barbecue Festival

The yearly Barbecue Festival brings barbecue joints in one place and welcomes new additions to the barbecue scene for a day of barbecue-focused fun. The 6th annual festival will take place on April 15th from 1:00 pm-4:00 p.m. at the Humble Civic Center Arena.

The entry tickets are $60, which includes limitless sample portions from every participating barbecue joint. The cost for VIP admission is $120, which includes entry an hour early (noon) and limitless sample portions from every participating barbecue joint.

The VIP tickets are also inclusive of a T-shirt and drink. It’s advisable you secure your ticket before they sell out like previous festivals. Bear in mind that tickets are limited and purchase will take place in advance. This year, the event will take place at a different location to allow for a better experience.

4. Japan Festival

The annual event, which usually takes place in Hermann Park’s stunning Japanese Garden, attracts over 20,000 people. The goal of the event is to offer a family event that promotes an appreciation of Japan’s rich heritage while contributing to Houston’s diverse communities.

The Japan Festival is a celebration of Japan’s rich cultural heritage. The event, which will take place from April 14th-15th, will feature Japanese dance, music, and martial arts as well as displays of the tea ceremony and flower arrangement.
