After being an apartment dweller for over a year, I realize it’s time I made some changes, especially since the New Year is fast approaching.
While living in an apartment has restrictions in terms of space and even décor, I feel it’s time my living space had a makeover. Here’s a list of my New Year’s Resolutions.
Declutter
Clutter has been a major challenge and a great source of stress this year. In spite of organizing and reorganizing my space numerous times, clutter always seems to sneak right back into my life.
However, this time round, I must adopt a different strategy if I am to live a clutter-free life next year. I realize that I spend considerable time organizing and retaining unnecessary stuff when I could be doing something else.
Furthermore, the fact that I have to deal with visual clutter on a daily basis is stressful to say the least. I long for my apartment to have a nice visual view and I have no doubt that once I clean and organize my stuff, it will be a pleasant and calming one.
This resolution will allow me to focus more on the things that I need to do. The most important benefit I expect from this task is more space.
I often feel like I lack sufficient space and my place always feels crowded. I plan to go through my cabinets, drawers, and donate the things I haven’t used in the last year. I expect this task will certainly change my living space and life in general, so I’m looking forward to it.
Indoor Plants
I’ve never been enthusiastic about indoor plants, but I plan to try new things next year. Now that I’m aware of the benefits of houseplants, I feel they should be a necessity rather than mere décor objects.
According to research, plants help decrease stress and produce a feeling of well-being, so I plan to be close to greenery next year. I feel this will help me be more at ease with my surroundings.
I also expect the plants to help enhance air quality. Specifically, I plan to have aloe vera-a herb that has functioned as natural medicine for centuries.
Another benefit of this herb is that it functions as a natural disinfectant and kills the fungi and germs in the air. Indoor plants will also help detox my apartment while giving my living space an aesthetic appeal.
Creative Storage
I plan to eliminate unnecessary magazines, room accessories, books and invest in furniture that allows for double-duty purposes, for instance chests or storage ottomans. I may even reduce the furniture to allow for more space.
Curtains
I must admit that I have ignored this area. While curtains can convert a simple room into an extraordinary one, knowing how to choose them can make the difference.
I’ve discovered that they create a great ambiance depending on the color you select and fabric of choice. I plan to invest in colored ones to develop a spacious aspect. This time round, I won’t go with the trend. Instead, my decision will be dependent on my style.
As the New Year approaches, I feel I must do things differently in my apartment if I am to expect different results. Consequently, this list will prove valuable as a guideline on the things I need to do. While I don’t expect it to be easy, I’m looking forward to the changes.
