When it comes to celebrating national holidays, Dallas TX is one of the best cities in the the United States.
No other American town has such a strong sense of community and patriotism and everybody from the local residents to city politicians leave no stone unturned during Memorial Day Weekend.
While there’s literally hundreds of different ways to celebrate, these 5 annual Dallas events are certainly worth checking out.
The Margarita Meltdown
One of the best things about Dallas TX during Memorial Day Weekend is the food and drink. This year over 30 restaurants are taking part in the Margarita Meltdown and will attempt to concoct the best cocktail in the city. The winner will be announced at 9pm on May 25th and part of the proceeds will go to benefit La Voz De Anciano. Tickets are available for a mere $30.
Lake Grapevine Fireworks
The Lake Grapevine Firework Display is a 12 minute firework bonanza that’s completely free of charge. Lake Grapevine is without a doubt one of the most stunning naturally beautiful places in Dallas TX; and each year thousands of residents flock to the shores to watch the event in all its glory. The display takes place at 9.30pm on Friday 23rd and occurs every week at the same time until Labor Day.
Dallas Arboretum
During the four days of Memorial Weekend the Dallas Arboretum will have free entry for retired military personnel. If you’re one for patriotism, then this is certainly the place to be. The gardens will be filled with flags honoring our fallen heroes; patriotic music will play among the shrubbery; and there’ll be everything from free concerts to petting zoos and keynote speakers.
Flagpole Hill Concert and Fireworks
If you enjoy classical music, then you must get down to Flagpole Hill. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will be performing a free outdoor concert, complete with fireworks and plenty of other events that pay tribute to the American Armed Forces. The event starts at 8pm on May 26th.
Lynn Smith Chevrolet Memorial Day Car Show
On Monday, May 27th from noon to 4pm the Lynn Smith Chevrolet Car Show will be taking place. If you own a vehicle and want to take part in the event, then a $10 fee is required to reserve your spot; while if you’re simply a viewer you can get in free of charge. There are plenty of awards to be won, such as; Best of the Show, Special Interest and Family Friendly.
There’s plenty to see and do in Dallas TX during the spring, but Memorial Day Weekend is without a doubt one of the most exciting times. Whether you’re looking for good food, good music or a nice day out with the family, there’ll be an abundance of activities to choose from.
