The Lakewood neighborhood is made up of various different districts, such as Lakewood Heights, Parks Estates, Caruth Terrace, Wilshire Heights, Mockingbird Meadows and the Lakewood Hills; among others.
The Lakewood district is within easy reach of the Downtown area and is connected via Swiss Avenue, which is known for being one the “richest” areas in the city.

History
Most of Lakewood was developed in the 1950’s; however, Lakewood Boulevard contains housing that dates back to the art deco era of the 1920’s. Much of the old housing has gained historic conservation status
Transport
Lakewood is serviced by two DART rail stations; Mockingbird Station and White Rock Station. This makes getting around the city quick, easy and economical. In addition, the area operates a DART on-call service, which is a personalized neighborhood transportation service that will pick you up and drop your off at local shops, restaurants, or other places of interest. To use the service you must book in advance and at least one hour prior notice is required.
Places of Interest
Lakewood is located adjacent to White Rock Lake, which is considered one of the most picturesque places in the state. This 1,254 acre reservoir is famed for its cycling and hiking trails in the surrounding White Rock Park. Fishing and sailing are popular recreational activities in the area.
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a 66 acre garden located just off the Shore of White Rock Lake. The grounds are home to hundreds of thousands of plants, with tens of thousands of different varieties. It also features sculptures and glass work exhibitions on the walking trails.
Lakewood Theater
The Lakewood Theater is one of the most popular attractions in the area. It regularly hosts top quality musical and comedy events, film festivals and even movie premieres. In addition, it holds weekly karaoke which is very popular among the locals. The theater has been a focal point of the city ever since its construction in 1938.
Lakewood is a peaceful part of Dallas TX that’s away from the hustle and bustle of the central parts of the city. Apartment prices in the area can drastically vary and usually range from between $800 and $1350 for a one to two bedroom apartment. Properties in White Rock and on the shoreline are generally more expensive.
If you’d rather move to an area that’s closer to the city center and has a livelier atmosphere, then Knox/Henderson and Greenville Avenue may be more appropriate. These districts are famed for their shopping, nightlife and artsy culture.
