If you’re seeking an inexpensive rental, perhaps you should consider a studio apartment. This type of rental can also be a choice for students, singles, and retirees.

If you opt for it, you’ll need to focus on filling it with stuff that fit your needs while emphasizing your personal aesthetic.

Most people think that decorating a small apartment is virtually impossible. However, living in a small space doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish, so here are a few tips.

Dual-purpose Furniture

When dealing with a studio apartment, every inch matters. For this reason, you must maximize on the space you have by investing in double-duty furniture. Instead of trying to work your living space around furniture, concentrate on purchasing pieces that will work for you.

You’ll discover that bedrooms are the ideal rooms for multi-purpose furniture. In this case, consider a trundle bed that you can fold into a sofa whenever you watch TV or a hollow ottoman that you can use for storage.

Whatever you select as dual-purpose furniture, ensure you choose pieces that are appropriate to the size of your space. Bear in mind that overstuffed models will make your space appear even smaller.

Lighting

You’ll discover that opening the drapes and installing various light fixtures will help you stay positive and sleep better during bad weather. This strategy will also make the small space appear cleaner, larger, and more welcoming.

Avoid heavy curtains and opt for sheers instead. If you cannot alter the window treatments, keep the curtains or blinds open as much as possible.

Additionally, you can include task lighting accompanied by track light fixtures, which you can plug directly into your wall outlets. This option provides good illumination and pulls your eye upward, making the ceiling look higher and the apartment more spacious.

Color Palette

When selecting your palette, concentrate on using three colors: two light, bright shades that decorate most of the space. Then include one darker accent color to ensure things remain visually interesting.

If you can’t withstand a little bold hue, you can fix this issue with furniture. Select one major color and paint or buy the furniture for that area in a similar shade. Then choose a second bold hue for your room’s accents.

Nevertheless, you may want to restrict your pop of color to one section of your apartment. It’s important to note that several statement colors can overwhelm a tiny space.

Bed Solutions

While space can be a challenge in a small space, you can still incorporate a bed in various ways. For instance, a DIY hanger wall will help separate your bed from your studio’s living area without making the entire space feel cramped. Alternatively, you can use the couch as a room divider.

Mirrors

Mirrors serve various functions in small spaces from expanding walls to amplifying light. Some of the ways to use these accessories in a studio include:

Using a huge floor length mirror

Mirrors of a similar width as your furniture make the piece appear prominent and purposeful instead of shoved in. You’ll discover that entry consoles are the ideal places because they’re usually tucked in wherever they will fit.

Place a mirror behind a source of light

Whether it’s a pendant light or bedside lamp, mirrors help capitalize on the light’s reach while producing a magical effect.

Although styling a small space can be challenging, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. With these tricks you can transform your studio apartment into a comfortable and stylish space.
