Don’t Forget To Ask These 3 Questions When Looking At An Apartment

Make sure you know what kitchen amenities are included with the rent.

Searching for an apartment in Houston TX or Dallas TX is never easy and there’s more to take into consideration than simply the price.

Too many people rush into moving and end up finding themselves contractually obliged to pay for an apartment they don’t want. By making sure you always make these three crucial enquiries, you should never run into this problem.

How Much Does it Cost?

The rental fee isn’t the only cost that you should take into account. When you’re moving into an apartment there are many other fees that can significantly increase your monthly outgoings. For example, you may have to pay extra for utility bills and Internet. This can cost upwards of 20% of your rental fees.

A deposit will also be required to cover any damages that occur throughout your lease agreement. Deposit prices can vary between landlords; however, in most circumstances you’ll be expected to pay between two and six weeks rent. If you would like to keep pets in your apartment, you may also have to pay both a pet deposit and pet rent. This is very common with apartment rentals in Houston TX or Dallas TX.

What’s the Area Like?

The area you live in is just as important as the residence itself. Ask all of the crucial questions: how far away are the transport connections? What’s the crime rate? Is it noisy near the apartment? When do nearby shops and amenities open for business?

For added peace of mind, it’s always worth visiting the area without the supervision of an agent or landlord so you can make a more thorough assessment. Check the area at various times throughout the day. If you don’t feel safe and secure, you won’t enjoy living there.

What Amenities are Included?

Make sure you find out what amenities are included in your rental agreement. In some circumstances you’ll have to pay extra to use certain facilities. For example, a shared washer/dryer, gym or pool.

Find out exactly what’s included inside your apartment. When you’re searching, it’s always a good idea to specify what you’re looking for beforehand if you want something specific. When you’re viewing apartments, it may look perfect and have all of the amenities that you want; however, items such as a microwave and dishwasher may be owned by the current tenant, rather than the landlord.

Before you move into a new apartment in Houston TX or Dallas TX, you should know exactly what to expect and what costs you’ll incur. Don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions and express your concerns aloud. Make sure you completely understand the terms of the rental agreement before you hand over any money or sign a contract.

It can be difficult to determine whether or not an apartment in Houston TX or Dallas TX will be right for you. Apartment Agents is here to help you make the right decision. If you have any more tips or would like to ask a question, please leave a comment below.
